The The Operational Control Center or "OCC" for many airlines represents the coordination hub where many "spokes" of airline operational control merge together. In a Mission-control-like atmosphere, the Aircraft Dispatcher, also referred to as flight superintendent, or flight control officer assists in the preplanning, flight monitoring, en route assistance, and coordination of several flights during a typical 8-10 hour shift. The OCC includes: Equipment Control, Flight Control, Maintenance Control, Meteorology, Radio, Security Command Center, and System Reroute. This strong team effort is vital in maintaining safe, and efficient flights.
Radar displays are a major weather tool for the Dispatcher. The Radar weather charts and displays portray all pertinent information concerning the intensity, configuration, coverage, type, and movement of precipitation. This information may at times supplement the radar information displayed in the control cabin of an aircraft. Working together, the Pilot-in-command and dispatcher may collectively decide on a preferred route, or reroute, around significant weather. At times, the type of aircraft with its particular performance characteristics and limitations may be a critical factor in weather planning and en route decision-making.ys

All weather, flight planning and status, as well as communications information are displayed on the monitors, or may be accessed with a few keystrokes.
Also included is a picture from our last class in Atlanta. It is always a pleasure to instruct these professional, and very motivated individuals.
Among the views for the OCC personnel are: system weather, flow (traffic) advisories, hotel accommodations, and the Weather Channel. These are supplements to the abundant information already provided to the dispatcher at their workstations.

American Airline Flight Dispatch Center

Here's the American Airline's System Operations Control/Flight Dispatch Office. This facility houses the command centers for one of the world's largest airline. This multi-million dollar high tech facility has many similiarities to NASA's Mission Control complex in Houston, Texas.
All of the American's flights world-wide are tracked and monitored here, using state of the art Flight Planning & Tracking computers and Satellite communications systems. Many Airline Flight Dispatcher Training Center graduates are now working in this facility.

It's the Flight Dispatchers who keep the whole airline running, around the clock, around the world. THAI Officially Opens Ground Operations Control Center (GOCC)

Thai Airways International Public Company Limited opened its Ground Operations Control Center (GOCC) at THAI Suvarnabhumi Airport Operations Centre. The Centre was officially opened by Flg. Off. Apinan Sumanaseni, THAI President.
GOCC is a seamless cooperation between THAI and four Business Units; the Ground Customer Services, Catering, Ground Support Equipment Services and Cargo & Mail Commercial Departments. GOCC is designed to perform HUB management and to function as the center of ground operations communications. A GOCC employs modern IT equipment to support newly developed work processes that monitor and control all aspects of ground service activities. GOCC aims for greater service and operational efficiency through 100 percent flight on-time performance, minimized ground time for better aircraft rotation, seamless transfer and handling of passengers and baggage as well as fast recovery from irregularities


The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority

maintains a proactive Operations Control Center (OCC) that is staffed 24 hours a day to monitor traffic and provide quick incident response. The OCC monitors the I-90/I-93 system of tunnels, ramps, bridge, and surface roadways in the Metropolitan Boston area, including the Sumner, Callahan, Prudential, and City Square tunnels, and I-90 West to the New York border. The OCC utilizes sophisticated electronic systems to manage and respond to over 34,000 annual traffic and facility events. This Integrated Project Control System (IPCS) allows the OCC to monitor and control various resources in support of ensuring safe environmental conditions. The OCC also works with the 511 service, Smart Routes, other transit and traffic agencies including the MBTA, Massport, MassHighway, and the City of Boston. The control center works very closely with other agencies and emergency services including the State Police, local fire departments, emergency medical services, towing services and roadway maintenance to provide up-to-the-minute communication on travel conditions and incident response. Key OCC equipment and facilities include: ·Closed circuit color pan-tilt-zoom video cameras with digital video recording capacities that assist in identifying the location and other information regarding an incident. ·Electronic variable message signs to provide traffic advisories and other messages to motorists. ·Height detectors that signal when vehicles that exceed height limits enter restricted areas of the underground highway. ·A ventilation system to move airflow through the tunnels in a variety of conditions. ·Carbon monoxide detectors to assure proper air quality. ·An electrical distribution system. ·A strategically located facility and recovery plan in the event operators need to relocate and implement continuity of operations.
