On Wednesday, October 26 2011, Garuda Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with sixty-one embassies in Jakarta for the use of Garuda Indonesia products and services. During the event that took place at the Ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel in Jakarta, the signitaries were Garuda Indonesia’s President & CEO, Emirsyah Satar and the ambassadors of the respective embassies.
Among the sixty-one embassies that signed the MOU were Afghanistan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, France, Germany, Norway, Oman, Spain, United Kingdom, Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Italy, Japan, Myanmar, Srilanka, as well as other Asian, European, and African countries.
From now on, all the staff from participating embassies will be using Garuda Indonesia when travelling around the country and abroad, and will be entitled to special rates and services, such as special net corporate fare, priority reservation, city check-in, group reservations and cargo. In addition, Garuda Indonesia joins up with its subsidiary, Aerowisata, for all their tour and travel arrangements.
Previously in 2010, Garuda Indonesia has also enetered a similar agreement with sixteen embassies in Indonesia, namely the Czek Republic, Palestine, Poland, South Korea, Turkey, Panama, Peru, European Union, Uzbekistan, Sweden, Iran, Brazil, New Zealand, Mexico, United States and Singapore.
Garuda Indonesa President & CEO, Emirsyah Satar, said that the airline’s agreement with sixty-one foreign embassies is one of the strategic moves being carried out to increase its market share, and at the same time, by introducing various travel destinations in Indonesia at the embassies through Aerowisata, will be able to boost tourism in Indonesia. “We sincerely hope that this MOU will strengthen the ties between Indonesia and the friendly nations,” disclosed Emirsyah Satar.
The corporate market has always been a potential target market for the airline and Garuda Indonesia has always felt the need to stay focused and develop this particular market segment. To date, the airline has formed corporate sales agreements with an estimated 1100 big companies in Indonesia, earning more than IDR 580 billion. In 2011, Garuda Indonesia targets sales of corporate accounts from 1250 corporate partners to reach IDR 1.5 trllion.
